Kos is the third largest island in the group, and the second most popular, after Rhodes. Soaked in history and ruins, after a few hours wandering Kos town’s fortress and the Asklepion (Hippocrates’ ancient sanatorium), you become almost blasé at sidestepping millenia-old Corinthian columns gathering weeds at the roadside. The marina is purposed built and shouldn’t be confused with the ferry port which is a few minutes north of the marina

In this Eastern part of Greece, and along the Turkish coast, in the crystal blue waters of the Aegean Sea, some of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean can be found.Discover Simi with its picturesque harbor, Patmos with its famous monastery of St.John, Arki, Lipsos, Leros, Kalimnos home of the sponge divers. It is worth a visit to the whole group of islands in the Dodekanisa.There is an endless, amazing variety of opportunities for pleasurable sailing, historic exploration, nightlife, or alternatively the tranquility and relaxation of the many numerous small bays.

 

On this route you’ll be following in the footsteps of many time periods, from Greeks and Romans to crusading medieval knights and Ottoman potentates. If you want to take a walk and explore the views then Tilos is your best stop, while if you’re more into climbing then the limestone cliffs of Kalymnos are for you. If you want to explore from a different angle then go diving and explore the underwater caves and ancient wrecks, these islands are off the beaten track slightly and give you Greece from a different perspective.

Dodecanese: 7 days itinerary b.

Day 1: Kos – Pserimos

After your arrival at Kos International Airport (KGS), reach your boat at the base and depart for Pserimos, a charming little island of 80 inhabitants . Discover the wild side of the island with its mountains, its vegetation and its olive trees then taste local specialties such as Keftédès in a small tavern.

Day 2 : Pserimos – Leros

Sail to a small sandy and crystal-clear beach in Porto-laki, Leros’s main port, and reach the “Castro” of the Virgin Mary to admire an impressive view of the capital, Platanos. Visit the archaeological museum of Agia Marina, the most visited cultural center of the island and taste the quality Greek gastronomy in one of the two districts – Ormos Alidas and Ormos- renowned for the quality of their taverns.

Day 3 : Leros – Patmos

In Patmos, the island is made up of the remains of an extinct volcano and is famous for its monasteries and sponge trade. Discover the cave of the Apocalypse, the place behind the writing of the book of the same name, its capital and visit the ancient city Chora, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Day 4 : Patmos – Lipsi

Head towards Lipsi, a small village that attracts many tourists in search of the authenticity of fishing and agriculture. Strong Christian anchorage, discover its rich religious history and visit its ecclesiastical museum. While strolling in the capital, observe the blue-domed churches, including the church Agios Loannis Theologos overlooking the harbor and discover the vibrant nightlife where the welcome is as warm as nowhere else.

Day 5 : Lipso – Arki

Sail to Arki, a small rocky town, and see the Augusta and Stretto harbors protected by numerous small islands halfway down the west coast. In Arki, enjoy the calm, sheltered from the waves of tourists and admire the breathtaking view of the Aegean Sea. Stroll along the port of Avgousta, reach the hill overlooking it and sit on one of the stones of the ruins to admire the panoramic sunset.

Day 6 : Arki – Kalymnos

Go to Kalymnos, the sister of Leros and place of residence of sponge fishermen where they previously plunged into shallow water by jumping from one stone to another. In Pothia, capital of the island, visit this amphitheatrical city, its brightly painted houses and the Church of the Holy Savior decorated with interior frescoes or explore the caves near the village of Skalia.

Day 7 : Kalimnos – Kos
